IndusLaw, Kochhar, Morrison & Foerster lead on Softbank’s $627 million investment in Snapdeal

Japanese telecom and Internet firm SoftBank Corp. has invested $627 million in Snapdeal, becoming the largest investor in Snapdeal.

IndusLaw acted for Snapdeal with a team led by Bangalore Partner Srinivas Katta along with Senior Associate Winnie Shekhar and Associates Piyush Bhawalpuria and Priyanka Chandrasekhar.

Kochhar & Co. acted as Indian legal counsel for Softbank while Morrison & Foerster LLP acted ad International legal counsel.

The Kochhar team was led by Partners Anjuli Sivaramakrishnan and Chandrasekhar Tampi, Principal Associates Priti Bansal and Anshuman Sahijpal and Associates Sehba Kanwal and Arshiya Mohan.

The Morrison & Foerster team was led by Tokyo Partners Kenneth A. Siegel and Randy Steven Laxer.

Snapdeal had earlier raised $100 million (Rs 590 crore) from a group of investors including US-based BlackRock Financial Management, Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund Temasek, Hong Kong-based Myriad Asset Management and Tybourne Capital Management and PremjiInvest. That round of investments saw Trilegal, Samvad Partners and Amarchand Mangaldas acting as legal advisors.

Prior to that, eBay and other existing investors had invested $134 million (Rs. 830 crore) in Snapdeal in a deal advised by J. Sagar Associates, Bingham McCutchen LLP and K Law.

The existing investors including Nexus and Kalaari Group of funds, Bessemer Venture Partners Trust, Dunearn Investments (Mauritius) Pte. Ltd, PI Opportunities Fund – I, Myriad Opportunities Master Fund, BlackRock Group of Funds and Ebay Singapore Services have also participated in this round with a significant undisclosed investment, advised by the respective law firms. With the latest funding, Snapdeal’s total fundraising so far has touched $947 million, reports VCCircle.

AZB & Partners Bangalore office acted for Nexus and Kalaari Group of Funds led by Partner Srinath Dasari along with Senior Associate Nanditha Gopal while AZB Mumbai Partner Essaji Vahanvati acted for Dunearn Investments (Mauritius) Pte. Ltd. along with Senior Associates Tushar Raut and Arvind Ramesh.

Khaitan & Co advised Bessemer Venture Partners Trust with a team led by Partner Haigreve Khaitan along with Principal Associate Iqbal Khan and Associate Nidhi Killawala.

Goodwin Proctor Partner Yash Rana and Sharad Moudgal also acted for Bessemer Venture Partners Trust.

Amarchand Mangaldas Bangalore Partners Rashmi Pradeep and Arjun Lall along with Senior Associate Bharath Reddy acted for PI Opportunities Fund – I.

Trilegal Partners Sridhar Gorthi and Nishant Parikh along with Counsels Gautam Singh and Kunal Chandra, Associates Kabir Mathur, Sanchit Agarwal and Gaurav Dugar advised Myriad Opportunities Master Fund Limited and BlackRock Group of Funds.
