Job Description

AK & Partners is seeking a Principal Associate to join its General Corporate practice, with a focus on financial sector regulation and fintech advisory. This role is designed as a leadership and succession position for senior lawyers who are ready to take on significant responsibility, client ownership, and long-term practice building.

This is a growth hire, aligned with the firm’s expanding work across the financial services ecosystem, including NBFCs, fintech platforms, regulated entities, and foreign investors entering or operating in India.

Role Overview

As a Principal Associate, you will independently lead complex corporate and regulatory matters while working closely with partners on strategy, client management, and practice development. You will be expected to function as a trusted advisor to clients, a mentor to teams, and a strategic resource within the practice.

The role requires deep familiarity with financial sector regulations, including RBI, FEMA, PMLA, digital lending and payments frameworks, along with the ability to translate regulatory requirements into commercially viable solutions for clients.

This position goes beyond execution. The Principal Associate is expected to demonstrate judgment, predictability, and leadership, and to contribute meaningfully to the firm’s long-term growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Independently managing complex corporate and regulatory advisory matters

• Advising clients on regulatory strategy, compliance frameworks, and product structuring

• Leading transactions involving regulated entities and fintech businesses

• Owning client relationships at an operational level

• Supervising and mentoring senior and junior associates

• Working with partners on client pitches, fee structuring, and mandate planning

• Contributing to business development initiatives with structured partner support

Leadership & Growth

The Principal Associate role at AK & Partners is positioned as a pre-partner / counsel track role. At this level, you will receive:

• Direct exposure to client strategy, pricing, and long-term account planning

• Visibility into practice economics and decision-making

• Shadow credit for client origination and retention

• Regular, transparent performance reviews focused on progression
