11th Annual Lawyers' Football Championship to take place on October 28 and 29
The 11th Annual Lawyers Football Championship is slated to be held on October 28 and 29 at the Bombay Gymkhana at Fort, Mumbai.
The championship started in 2011 with law firms and lawyers' associations participating.
The game is in the format of a 6-a-side tournament.
Past winners of the tournament include the Bombay Bar Association and law firms like Hariani and Co., Wadia Gandhy and Co., Amarchand Mangaldas (pre-split) and Kanga & Co.
The last edition of the tournament was by far the biggest in the championship's history.
There were 46 teams (law firms) in total participating in the tournament - 32 men's teams and 14 women's teams, who took part in the Ladies Penalty Shootout.
This year, the tournament will be spread out over 2 days.
After the 'Round Robin' stage which takes place on Saturday evening under floodlights, the top-placed team in each group will go into Sunday's knock-out phase where they will play for the coveted Chief Justice Chagla Cup.
Similarly, the second-placed teams from the groups will vie for the Wadia Ghandy Plate trophy, while the third and fourth teams will slog it out for the Wadia Ghandy Bowl trophy.
