An RTI application by activist Subhash Chandra Agarwal has revealed the complete list of persons who had applied for or been nominated for the post of Lokpal..Four retired Supreme Court judges have been nominated by the Supreme Court – BS Chauhan, Gyan Sidha Mishra, CK Prasad and Ranjana Prakash Desai. While Justice Chauhan and Justice Gyan Sudha Misra have been nominated for the posts of Chairperson, Lokpal and Judicial Member, Lokpal; Justice Prasad has applied for the post of Chairperson, Lokpal only. Likewise, Justice Ranjana Desai has applied for the post of Judicial Member, Lokpal alone..Interestingly, three of these four judges have already taken up post retirement jobs. Justice Chauhan is serving as the Chairman of Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal while Justice CK Prasad is the Chairperson of the Press Council of India. Justice Desai is serving as the Chairperson of the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity..Besides these four, the list also has contains the names of some prominent retired High Court judges including PD Dinakaran, Karpaga Vinayakam, T Meena Kumari, Jagdish Bhalla, Yad Ram Meena, Nisam Ahmad Kakru, Justice MSA Siddiqui, Prafull Kumar Mishra, Permod Kohli..Most interestingly, the list says that although Justice Dinakaran has indicated his application as “nominated” it has been received directly without any nomination/forwarding letter. The nomination of other similar candidates have been received from the Registrars of the concerned High Courts where they had served as judges..Subhash Chandra Agarwal’s quest for list began in 2014.
