9,848 social media accounts/URLs blocked in 2020: Response in Parliament

In response to a question in the Lok Sabha today, it was stated that the social media accounts and URLs were blocked on the request of the nodal officers of various ministries and states.

In 2020, the Central government directed the blocking of 9,849 social media accounts/URLs under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, Minister of State (Electronics and Information Technology) Rajeev Chandrasekhar revealed in Parliament today.
