The Kerala government on Tuesday appointed advocate Anoop V Nair as the new State Attorney.

The decision was announced by Chief Minister V D Satheesan at a press conference held earlier in the day.

Nair succeeds advocate N Manojkumar in the role. As State Attorney, he will coordinate and manage litigation on behalf of the State government before the Kerala High Court, working in close association with the Advocate General’s office.

Additionally, the Kerala Cabinet also approved the appointment of 40 additional law officers for the Kerala High Court, including special government pleaders, senior government pleaders and government pleaders.

Kochi-based Nair has over 23 years of experience practising before courts and tribunals in Kerala. He enrolled as an advocate in 2002 and has since appeared before the Munsiff-Magistrate Court in Perumbavoor as well as the High Court of Kerala.

He is a founding partner of ASM Attorneys and was the Secretary of the Kerala High Court Advocates’ Association in 2024.

His practice covers civil and criminal matters, writs, service law, company law, and proceedings under the SARFAESI Act and the Panchayath Raj framework. He has also represented several grama panchayats and autonomous bodies before the High Court.

Nair previously served on the legal advisor panel of the Guruvayur Devaswom Board, where he was involved in amending staff service regulations.
