Advocate Manish Sharma, who fatally shot Uttar Pradesh Bar Council President Darvesh Yadav in Agra District Court premises earlier this month, died in a hospital in Gurugram today.

Sharma reportedly breathed his last in the Medanta Hospital in Gurugram where he was undergoing treatment after he shot himself in the head after shooting Darvesh Yadav. Sharma was on ventilator support and was brought to Gurugram from Agra for advanced treatment.

After the shooting on June 12, Yadav and Sharma were taken to a hospital in Agra where Yadav was pronounced dead on the same day.

Darvesh Yadav was the first woman President of the Uttar Pradesh Bar Council while Sharma was her close associate. On the day of the shooting, the two allegedly got into an argument and according to eye-witnesses, Sharma pulled out a pistol and shot Yadav.

The FIR lodged in the case outlines the possibility of a personal grudge and states that Yadav had received threats from Sharma’s wife. It also says that Sharma had forcibly taken possession of Yadav’s chamber. The complaint filed by one of Yadav’s relatives also named another lawyer by the name Vineet Gulecha who allegedly abetted the crime by bringing Sharma to the place where Yadav was present for a welcome ceremony after she assumed charge as the UP Bar Council President.

In light of the gruesome incident, a PIL has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking a CBI inquiry into the murder. The PIL also seeks directions for the provision of safety measures of women lawyers in all courts across the country.  The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the case next week.
