Allahabad High Court expresses concern over male gym trainers coaching female clients without safeguards

The Allahabad High Court has raised concerns regarding the training of women by male trainers in gyms, citing a lack of sufficient safeguards [Nitin Saini v State of UP and Another]

Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav was hearing an appeal related to a criminal case accusing a gym trainer of using caste-based slur and abusing a woman customer.

“It is a matter of serious concern that presently male gym trainers are imparting training to female clients without adequate safeguards to ensure their safety and dignity,” the Court said.

In the case registered last year under the provisions of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, gym trainer Nitin Saini was accused of having called the victim "Chamari Chamatti", pushing her and throwing her out of the gym when she was working out there. The victim also alleged that the accused made obscene videos of her friend.

In an order passed on August 27, the Court asked the police to find out whether the gym operated by the accused was duly registered under the law. The Court also asked whether the accused has been arrested in the case. Further, the Court asked whether the gym has female trainers.

The matter will be heard next on September 8.
