The Allahabad High Court has granted bail to a Muslim man who was arrested last year for uploading a post with the phrase ‘I Love Mohammed’ on Instagram [Nadeem v. State of UP]
Justice Rajiv Lochan Shukla noted that the accused has been in the jail since October 7, 2025 in a case with no objectionable comment against any particular community.
"The supposed objectionable post made on the Instagram handle by the applicant does not name any particular caste or community," the judge said in an order passed on May 4.
Seeking bail in the first information report (FIR) registered at Muzaffar Nagar police station, the accused earlier submitted that he was falsely implicated in the case.
His counsel said that a chargesheet has also been submitted in the matter and that there is no likelihood of the trial against him being concluded in the near future.
In response, the State said that the accused had made insensitive comments stating that he was willing to sever his own neck and that of others for the sake of "I Love Mohammed'. It was also submitted that there had been violence in Bareilly due to use of the "objectionable slogan".
Considering the time spent by the accused in jail as well as the lack of any criminal antecedents, the Court granted bail to him.
"Let the accused-applicant- Nadeem, involved in above mentioned case crime number be released on bail, on his executing a personal bond and two reliable sureties each, in the like amount to the satisfaction of the court concerned," the Bench said.
Advocate Atul Kumar represented the accused.
