The Allahabad High Court on Wednesday stayed proceedings before trial court against cricketer Yash Dayal who has been accused of rape on false promise of marriage by a woman [Yash Dayal v State of UP and 3 Others].Justice Sanjoy Kumar Pachori passed the order on a petition moved by Dayal seeking quashing of trial court order taking congizance of the summons issued to him by a Ghaziabad magistrate. The Court said the matter requires consideration and issued a notice on Dayal's petition to the State government and complainant."Until further orders, further proceedings of aforesaid case shall remain stayed against the applicant," the Court directed.Dayal in his petition has sought quashing of the pending proceedings against him as well as the chargesheet filed by the police last month under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).The cricketer has played for Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He did not participate in the 2026 season but remained on contract with the RCB. .Dayal was booked by Ghaziabad police in July 2025 on the complaint of a woman who alleged that the cricketer had established physical relations with her on the false promise of marriage during their relationship of five years. On July 15, 2025, the High Court stayed Dayal's arrest on a petition seeking quashing of the FIR.The cricketer has now filed a separate petition to quash the trial court proceedings after the police filed a chargesheet against him. His plea contends that the relationship was consensual since beginning without any promise of marriage. It adds that her case at best could be a breach of promise to marry and not a false promise of marriage. Dayal has also argued that the complainant herself has admitted that the consensual sexual relations were established in 2021 and any conversation about marriage happened only later. The plea states that the statement of complainant or any of the witnesses proposed to be examined do not contain even a whisper about any assurance of marriage. The cricketer has claimed that the case was registered only after he became famous, to extort money from him..Last year, Dayal was also booked by Jaipur Police in a case under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO)..Senior Advocate GS Chaturvedi argued the case.
