Arjun Ram Meghwal retains independent charge of Minister of State for Law and Justice

BJP leader Arjun Ram Meghwal will continue to hold independent charge as Minister of State in the Ministry of Law and Justice of the newly sworn in National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government. .A communication to this effect was published by the President of India on Monday.Meghwal held the same portfolio even during the previous NDA regime after then Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju had been given the portfolio of the Ministry of Earth & Sciences..On June 9, Meghwal has taken oath as the Minister of State (Independent charge) in the newly elected government led by Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP)..Last year, on May 18, President of India Draupadi Murmu had assigned Meghwal the independent charge as Minister of State in the Ministry of Law and Justice in addition to portfolio of Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and the Minister of State for Culture..69-year-old Meghwal is a retired Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer who went on to serve as the District Magistrate (Collector) in Rajasthan.Previously, Meghwal had served as the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Water Resource, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation during Modi’s first term as Prime Minister. He has been a member of the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) for over a decade.In 2009, Meghwal was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) in the Lok Sabha from Bikaner and was re-elected in the 2014 general election. During his second term as an MP, he was the Chief Whip of the BJP in Lok Sabha.
