Attorney General for India, Mukul Rohatgi has written to the Central government expressing his desire to be relieved from the post of the highest law officer of the country.

According to NDTV, Rohatgi confirmed the same saying,

“I have worked for five years as law officer under the Vajpayee government and now three years under the Modi government….I want to return to my private practice. I have a good relationship with the government… That’s why I wrote to government not to extend my term,”

Rohatgi took over as Attorney General in 2014 after the BJP government came to power at the Centre. Earlier, he had served as Additional Solicitor General during the tenure of first NDA government under AB Vajpayee.

Bar & Bench had reported on June 3 that though seven law officers had got an extension of term, the same was an ad-hoc measure.
