Newly elevated Supreme Court Judge, Justice Indu Malhotra, was felicitated by the women members of the Bar on Thursday, last week. This function was held in the Ladies Bar room in the Supreme Court where Justice Malhotra interacted with her former colleagues and junior Bar members.
Senior Counsel Indira Jaising was also in attendance and welcomed and presented a memento to Justice Malhotra.
During her interaction, Justice Malhotra reportedly advised the women members of the Bar to dress professionally, particularly when they come to the Courts.
Justice Malhotra’s advice was seconded and appreciated by some of the senior women members of the Bar, like Jaising who took to micro-blogging site Twitter to say,
“I join Ms Justice Indu Malhotra in appealing to women Lawyers to be well attired and professionally dressed in court. She was herself one of the best dressed professionally attired women Lawyer”
According to the Hindustan Times, Senior Advocate and Additional Solicitor General Pinky Anand also agreed with Justice Malhotra and said that the advice did not translate to a suggestion that only one specific attire or Indian clothes be worn but only spoke of a “professional look”
Malhotra is the first woman to be elevated directly from the Bar to the Supreme Court and only the seventh woman judge Supreme Court has ever had.
