1. Haji Ali Dargah Trust v. Dr. Noorjehan Safia Niaz

[Item 30 in court 1 – SLP (C) 29488/2016]

Bench: Chief Justice TS Thakur, DY Chandrachud, L Nageswara Rao JJ.

Appeal against the Bombay High Court judgment allowing entry of women inside the sanctum sanctorum of the Haji Ali dargah.

Today in Court: The Apex Court extended the stay granted by Bombay High Court to facilitate an appeal against its decision to lift the ban on women entering the sanctum santorum.

2. Sumathi v. Govindachamy

[Item 301 in court 6 – RP(Crl) D 32189/2016 in Crl A 1584-1585/2014]

Bench: Ranjan Gogoi, PC Pant, UU Lalit JJ.

Review petition against the judgment of the apex court exonerating Govindachamy of the death penalty for the rape and murder of a girl from Kerala.

3. Asha Ranjan v. State of Bihar

[Item 50 in Court 4 – WP(Crl) 132/2016]

Bench: Dipak Misra, Amitava Roy JJ.

Petition filed by slain journalist Rajdeo Ranjan, alleging that no steps have been taken to arrest the murderers of her husband due to their proximity with politician Shahabuddin. The Court had earlier passed an order directing CBI enquiry into the matter, and to provide the victim with police protection.

Today in Court: The CBI has been asked to conclude its probe in three months.

4. Indira Jaising v. Supreme Court of India through Secretary General and Ors.

[Item 27 in court 1 – Writ Petition (Civil) 454/2015]

Bench: Chief Justice TS Thakur, DY Chandrachud, L Nageswara Rao JJ.

A petition filed by Senior Advocate and former Additional Solicitor General Indira Jaising in the Supreme Court challenging the allegedly non-transparent and arbitrary method followed by the apex court in designating Senior Advocates.

The Supreme Court has now filed an affidavit admitting that there are no Rules regulating designation of advocates as Seniors but the same is governed by certain resolutions passed by the court from time to time. The court has, however, claimed that the process currently followed is “fair” and “transparent”.

5. In Re: Vs. Outrage as Parents End Life After Child’s Dengue Death

[Item 64 Court 6 – SMWC (C) 1/2015]

Bench: Madan B Lokur, A K Goel JJ.

Suo motu case by the Supreme Court regarding the suicides committed by two parents after their child succumbed to death due to dengue last year. The death was allegedly due to him being denied treatment.

Senior Advocate Colin Gonsalves has been appointed as Amicus Curiae in the matter.

Today in Court: Additional time has been given to the Delhi Government to file appropriate documents.

6. Mukesh v. State for NCT of Delhi

[Item 301 in court 4 – SLP (CRL) NO. 3119-3120/2014]

Bench: Justice Dipak Mishra, Banumathi, Ashok Bhushan JJ.

The appeal in the 2012 Delhi gang rape. At the last hearing, Advocate AP Singh made his submissions.

Today in Court: Advocate AP Singh continued with his submissions.

7. Board of Control for Cricket in India v. Cricket Association of Bihar

[Item 301 in court 1 – CA 4235/2014]

Bench: Chief Justice TS Thakur, AM Khanwilkar, DY Chandrachud JJ.

The case relating to BCCI and the Lodha Committee’s recommendations. The court had passed an interim order on October 7 directing the BCCI to stop all funds to the state cricket associations until they submit a resolution in writing to the court and the Lodha Committee agreeing to adopt the recommendations of the Committee.

Today in Court: Amicus Curae Gopal Subramaniam made his submissions before the Court.

Delhi High Court

1. Social Jurist A Lawyers Group v. Dharmendra Sharma and Ors.

[Cont. Case (C) 1133/2016; Court No. 10 Item No. 41]

Bench: Manmohan, J.

A contempt petition filed against the Directorate of Education, Delhi as well as the departments of education of the three municipal corporations for failing to fill over 26,000 vacancies for teachers’ posts in the government schools in Delhi.

Today in Court: The bench issued notice in the matter. It will now be heard on December 8.

2. Harsh Nagar v. Union of India and Ors.

[W.P. (C) 9392/2016; Court No. 1 Item No. 11]

Bench: G. Rohini, CJ, Sangita Dhingra Sehgal, J.

A PIL filed by a law graduate to issue guidelines or orders with appropriate clarifications as to where and on what occasions can the national anthem be played. The petition focuses on playing of the national anthem mandatorily at all cinema halls and theatres before the start of a movie.

Today in Court: The bench issued notices to the central and Delhi governments in the matter. The case will now be heard on December 14.

3. ITC Limited v. Food Corporation of India
