Bar Council of India (BCI) Co-Chairman and Senior Advocate YR Sadasiva Reddy was assaulted by unidentified men inside his chamber in Bengaluru..The BCI on Thursday issued a public statement condemning the “inhuman, targeted and nearly fatal assault” and called for immediate investigation into the incident.According to the BCI, the incident took place on April 16 when two unidentified men entered Reddy’s professional chamber and attacked him with iron rods. The assailants allegedly carried out the assault in the presence of Reddy’s junior advocate..Reddy, who also serves as a member of the Karnataka State Bar Council, sustained multiple fractures in his right forearm, left elbow and leg.“These were not random injuries, these were blows aimed at silencing, at crippling, and at intimidating a senior advocate and an elected representative of the legal fraternity,” the BCI said in its press release. .The BCI described the attack as a grave assault on the independence of the legal profession and called for immediate investigation and accountability. .[Read BCI Statement]
