Hyderabad's Chanchalguda Central Prison has opened its gates to ordinary citizens who want to experience prison life without committing any crimes.

The Chanchalguda Central Prison has launched 'Feel the Jail', a programme that allows ordinary citizens to voluntarily spend up to a whole day behind the bars.

Those thrilled by the idea of incarceration can now spend ₹2,000 for the 24-hour 'Feel the Jail' experience or ₹1,000 for a 12-hour stay. Visitors will be lodged in specially designated prison cells, eat jail food and follow inmate-style routines.

Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla inaugurated the Feel the Jail experience centre on Tuesday, along with a new jail museum at the State Institute of Correctional Administration in Chanchalguda.

This is not Hyderabad's first foray into prison tourism. Five years ago, the Sangareddy Jail, a 222-year-old prison, opened its doors to another Feel the Jail programme. According to reports, the decision to open the new Feel the Jail experience was taken after the Heritage Jail Museum in Sangareddy collapsed a few years ago.
