The accused persons in the 2018 Bhima Koregaon case, presently detained in the Taloja Central Prison, Maharashtra will hold a one-day hunger strike on Wednesday seeking action against the alleged "institutional murder" of Father Stan Swamy. .The accused have claimed that systematic torture of by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the then Taloja Jail Superintendent Kaustubh Kurlikar led to the death of Swamy..They contended that NIA and Kurlekar did not leave a single chance to torture Swamy while he was in custody."Shifting him back to the prison from the hospital despite his critical health condition, giving him substandard treatment in the prison, or even denying something as basic as a straw and sipper" were some of the acts which pointed out the alleged negligence and high-handedness of the prison authorities. .Sources informed that through the hunger strike, the accused are seeking an independent inquiry into Swamy’s custodial death. They have also sought that the Superintendent to be booked and tried on murder charges for causing the death of Swamy.A representation to that effect will be sent to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and to the prison authorities, sources stated.
