The Bombay High Court on Friday denied default bail to Surendra Gadling, Mahesh Raut, Rona Wilson, Sudhir Dhawale and Shoma Sen in connection with the Bhima Koregaon violence case.

A Division Bench of Justices AS Gadkari and Shyam C Chandak passed the order on pleas filed by the five accused challenging 2022 special court orders that denied them default bail.

The five accused were arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in June 2018.

While Gadling moved the High Court against a special court's order from June 28, 2022, which rejected his default bail application, Raut, Wilson, Dhawale and Sen moved against similar order of June 26, 2022.

Raut was granted regular bail by the Bombay High Court last year. However, the High Court itself had stayed the order for a week after NIA sought time to file an appeal against the same before the Supreme Court.

The NIA then moved an appeal before the Supreme Court which extended the stay further. Raut was arrested in June 2018 and has been in custody since.

Sen was granted regular bail by the Supreme Court on April 5. Gadling, Wilson and Dhawale are still in custody.
