Calcutta High Court dismisses plea seeking suo motu contempt proceedings against TMC's Abhihesk Banerjee

The Court, however, said that public office bearers and people in posts of importance should refrain from making casual comments which could lower the judiciary’s prestige.

A plea seeking suo moto contempt of court proceedings against Member of Parliament (MP) and General Secretary of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Abhishek Banerjee for allegedly trying to malign the judiciary and undermine its dignity, was dismissed by the Calcutta High Court on Monday [Susmita Saha Dutta v Avishek Bandyopadhyay].
