Calcutta High Court seeks Centre's response on PIL challenging Aadhaar deactivation

The petition filed by NGO Joint Forum Against NRC has challenged Regulation 28A that empowers authorities to deactivate Aadhaar cards of citizens.

The Calcutta High Court on Thursday ordered the Central government to respond to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition challenging the provisions of the Aadhaar (Enrolment and Update) Regulations, 2016 that empowers the authorities to deactivate Aadhaar cards of citizens whom they deem foreigners [Joint Forum Against NRC vs Union of India].
