The Central Bureau of Investigation last night arrested Bar Council of India Member of the Legal Education Committee, Rajendra Singh Rana on charges of demanding bribe, from law schools in India reports the Times of India.

The CBI had been monitoring the telephone calls of Rana and raided his Pitampura residence in North-Delhi last evening when another Advocate arrived there, with the file of a Law College. The agency claimed to have recovered over Rs. 1 lakh from his residence and soon after he was detained, simultaneous searches were carried out at seven places in and around Delhi including the Law College.

Speaking to the Press Trust of India, Rana alleged that the agency was deliberately trying to trap him and that he was discussing the case with his fellow Supreme Court Advocate whom he identified as “Tyagi”.

According to media reports Rana claimed that both of them had been brought to the CBI headquarters for questioning and were only detained, the CBI sources maintained that he has been arrested and a case of bribery registered against him.

Rajinder Singh Rana was first elected to the State Bar Council of Delhi in 1998. He became a Vice Chairman in 2000 and in 2010, he was elected as a Member to the Bar Council of India.
