Executive appointed Election Commissioners for 73 years: Centre to Supreme Court

The submission was made in an affidavit filed by the Central government in response to petitions challenging the CEC Act, 2023 which excludes the CJI from the selection panel that appoints Election Commissioners

Election Commissioners in India were being appointed exclusively by the executive for 73 years, the Central government told the Supreme Court on Wednesday while defending the recent appointment of two Election Commissioners without any involvement of the Chief Justice of India (CJI).
