Centre notifies transfer of Meghalaya High Court Chief Justice Soumen Sen to Kerala High Court

The Union Government has notified the transfer of Justice Soumen Sen, who is presently the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court, to the Kerala High Court.

Justice Sen will assume charge as Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court following the retirement of incumbent Kerala High Court Chief Justice Nitin Madhukar Jamdar, who is set to demit office on January 9.

The transfer comes pursuant to a recommendation made by the Supreme Court Collegium at its meeting held on December 18, 2025.

Bombay High Court Justice Revati Mohit Dere will take charge as the Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court once Justice Sen demits office.

Justice Sen, who hails from the Calcutta High Court, was appointed Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court in September 2025.

Justice Sen enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of West Bengal in January 1991 and practised for over two decades before the Calcutta High Court on both the original and appellate sides, as well as before various courts and tribunals.

During his practice, he served as a Senior Central Government Advocate and appeared in a wide range of civil, constitutional, banking and arbitration matters, representing statutory authorities including the Reserve Bank of India, SEBI and SIDBI.

He was elevated as a judge of the Calcutta High Court on April 13, 2011.
