CJI Surya Kant, Supreme Court judges, to attend National Mediation Conference at IIULER Goa

Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant and seven Supreme Court judges are among those slated to attend a National conference and symposium on mediation to be held at the India International University of Legal Education and Research (IIULER) in Goa on December 26 and 27.

The National Mediation Conference will bring together Supreme Court judges, High Court judges, and senior legal luminaries.

The event is being organised by the Bar Council of India (BCI) in collaboration with IIULER, Goa, on the theme: “Mediation: How Far Significant in Present-Day Context” in IIULER's auditorium.

The two-day conference will bring together senior members of the judiciary, legal professionals, and eminent dispute resolution experts to discuss the evolving role of mediation in India’s justice delivery system.

Alongside the CJI Kant, the Supreme Court judges confirmed to attend include:

  • Justice JK Maheshwari

  • Justice BV Nagarathna

  • Justice PS Narasimha (also Chancellor of IIULER)

  • Justice PK Mishra

  • Justice Ujjawal Bhuyan

  • Justice N Kotiswar Singh

  • Justice VM Pancholi

Chairman of the Bar Council of India and BCI Trust, Rajya Sabha MP Manan Kumar Mishra, and over 30 High Court judges are among the other dignitaries slated to attend the event.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant is also expected to be in attendance.

The programme will feature technical sessions, plenary discussions, policy roundtables, and specialised mediation training programmes focusing on key aspects of mediation.

Topics and themes include:

  • The evolution and impact of mediation in India


  • Court-annexed mediation centres


  • Online Dispute Resolution


  • Mediation under the Mediation Act 2023


  • Mediation as a constitutional value

The event will include an outreach initiative, a two-kilometer Mediation Awareness Walk, to be led by the CJI Kant on December 26.
