SC Collegium recommends 7 Addl judges of Karnataka HC to be made permanent judges

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended that seven additional judges of the Karnataka High Court be made permanent judges of the High Court.

The seven judges so recommended are Justices Kempaiah Somashekar,  K Somappa Mudagal, Sreenivas H Kumar,  John Michael Cunha, Basavaraj A Patil, NK Sudhindrarao, and Dr HBP Sastry.

All seven additional judges were unanimously recommended for appointment as permanent judges of the Court by the Karnataka High Court Collegium last June. This proposal had also received the concurrence of the Karnataka Government.

A  resolution dated October 9 intimates that the Supreme Court also concurred with this recommendation following an appraisal of judgments by the seven judges as well as consultation with those familiar with the affairs of the Karnataka High Court.

The Supreme Court Collegium approved their names after noting that it does not find any merit in certain complaints made against some of the recommendees.

Accordingly, the resolution states,

In view of the above, the Collegium resolves to recommend that Mr. Justices (1) Kempaiah Somashekar, (2) Smt. K. Somappa Mudagal, (3) Sreenivas H. Kumar, (4) John Michael Cunha, (5) Basavaraj A. Patil, (6) N.K.Sudhindrarao, and (7) Dr. H.B.P.Sastry, Additional Judges, be appointed as Permanent Judges of the Karnataka High Court against the existing vacancies.
