Complaints lodged against Vir Das in Mumbai, Delhi for making statements in USA tarnishing image of India

Comedian Vir Das has found himself embroiled in controversy for a six-minute video captured while he was speaking at Washington's Kennedy Centre in the United States of America. .Multiple complaints have been filed against Das for his allegedly inflammatory statements made in the video. In the video, Das talked about some issues including farmers' protest, rape, India’s response to Covid-19, and the crackdown on comedians in the country.."It has been observed that aforesaid issues are wilfully spelling inciting and a derogatory statement against the current Prime Minister of India is the biggest threat to Union of India that he did fraud regarding the PM Care Funds and he is not able to get information regarding the same," a complaint filed before Mumbai Police states. The complainant Advocate Ashutosh Dubey stated that the statement attempts to project that India is the biggest threat to democracy which is baseless and it appears that it is a statement given only to create an atmosphere of fear and hatred.Dubey sought the registration of an FIR against the alleged offences as per the Indian Penal Code and felt "it is necessary to issue notice to the intermediaries to take appropriate action". .Another complaint was filed by one Vikash Agarwal with Bangur Nagar Link Road of Mumbai Police. "He should be hanged till death and no one should have the courage do this against our country. Being a citizen of my country it’s my moral duty to file the case against him.".A complaint was also filed with the Delhi police by the Delhi BJP spokesperson Aditya Jha who stated that Das made a "desperate attempt" to "tarnish the image of our country at international level" by making "indecent remarks about India".
