The closure of the Karnataka High Court, district courts, and tribunals in the state has been extended to May 16 in view of the Coronavirus lockdown extension.
The latest notification extending the closure of the High Court states,
"Further, the period of closure of the High Court of Karnataka, Bengaluru including Benches at Dharwad and Kalaburagi is hereby extended till 16.05.2020 for the purpose of Section 4 of the Limitation Act 1963."
The notification issued through Registrar General Rajendra Badamikar reiterates that only a skeletal staff is directed to attend office, while the rest of need not attend till May 16, unless specifically directed by the Court Registrars.
Currently, the High Court and lower courts have resorted to hearing extremely urgent cases via video conferencing.
The earlier notification issued in similar vein, informed that the Karnataka High Court would remain closed from March 24 till April 6, in view of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Earlier, the Karnataka High Court had resolved to cancel its summer vacation in order to make up for the loss of court working hours due to the COVID-19 lockdown.
