Ashok Kumar P leaves ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel to join UltraTech as Chief Legal Officer

ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India General Counsel Ashok Kumar P is set to join UltraTech as Chief Legal Officer.

It is understood yesterday was his last day at AM/NS.

Kumar is a 2004 graduate of Government Law College, Chennai. With over two decades of in-house counsel experience, Kumar has led legal teams across industries including Steel, Mining, Ports, Shipping, Power, Telecom, Infra, EPC, Manufacturing, Renewables, etc.

Speaking on this development, Kumar shared,

“I had an excellent working in AM/NS for the last 5 years- considering that the company is borne out of IBC, had the most exciting, challenging and fulfilling stint. I am grateful to the entire leadership, especially CEO Dilip Oommen and Group General Counsel Sapan Gupta, for their trust, guidance and support. Proud to have had one of the best legal teams. I wish AM/NS all the very best in their huge expansion plans and growth.

Incidentally I will be moving from world’s largest steel group (outside China) to world’s largest cement company (outside China).

I am super excited to be joining UltraTech Cement and the illustrious Aditya Birla Group. ABG is well known not just for the scale and legacy but also for its great ethic, governance and culture. Look forward for an exciting and fulfilling journey ahead.”

He was associated with ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India for the past 5 years and was promoted to the position of General Counsel last year.

Before AM/NS he has with JSW, ABB Power Grids, Areva, Moser Baer India, S Tel Pvt Ltd and Hathway Cable and Datacom.
