Abhishek Ranjan, Akash Mittal and Sadhvi Gupta have left Deloitte’s tax practice to launch Fair and Square Legal (‘F&S Legal’), a firm focused on tax, regulatory and commercial law matters.

The Firm is headquartered in Noida and operates offices in Delhi and Mumbai.

F&S Legal is built around a focused practice in indirect tax, direct tax, corporate and commercial law, and allied regulatory matters. The firm’s indirect tax work spans GST, Customs, Central Excise, Service Tax, VAT and State Excise - covering the full arc from legacy disputes to live GST controversies.

With the GST Appellate Tribunal now operational, the Firm is positioned to represent clients at the Tribunal from the outset.

The Firm also carries a direct tax interface, ensuring no dimension of a client's tax position is examined in isolation. Beyond tax, F&S Legal advises on corporate structuring, commercial contracts, arbitration and regulatory matters spanning SEZ frameworks, Insurance laws, FSSAI and Legal Metrology.

Prior to this, Ranjan served as Director and Mittal and Gupta as Associate Directors at Deloitte, where they collectively led high-stakes litigation and complex indirect tax mandates, including South Asia cross-border assignments. They have represented clients before tax authorities, appellate forums, tribunals, and the High Courts and Supreme Court across India, and have devised tax-efficient structures for clients in an ever-evolving Indian tax landscape.

All three founders were previously at Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan, where Ranjan was an Associate Partner and Mittal and Gupta were Principal Associates, before moving together to Deloitte approximately three years back.

Having spent years inside large practices, the founders built F&S Legal around a conviction that clients deserve both the technical depth of a specialist firm and the direct partner attention that scale often erodes.

Ranjan, a Gujarat National Law University alumnus, has nearly a decade-and-a-half of deep expertise in niche sectors like alcobev, tobacco, and manufacturing. Complementing this, Faculty of Law graduates Mittal and Gupta bring a wealth of advisory and litigation experience across distinct domains—with Mittal specializing in mining, FMCG, and real estate, and Gupta anchoring insurance, GCCs, education, and technology - creating a highly versatile and well-rounded founding team.

Speaking on the launch of F&S Legal, the founders said,

“We are deeply grateful for the trust and confidence reposed in us by our clients over the years. The decision to establish F&S Legal reflects our shared vision of creating a partner-led practice that combines technical excellence with commercially focused advice. We also intend to work closely with startups and early-stage businesses, providing end-to-end legal and tax support as they scale. We look forward to continuing our relationships with existing clients and building new ones as we begin this journey.”
