Ishan Kapoor has founded KIRN Partners, a boutique law firm with offices in Mumbai and Goa, specialising in indirect tax, international trade and public policy.
The firm plans to announce the opening of offices in New Delhi and Calcutta in the near term.
Among the firm's work is GST and Customs litigation and advisory, trade policy and tariff classification work - including Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) schemes, Free Trade Agreements and tariff engineering - and a dedicated emerging sectors practice covering crypto taxation and policy, digital economy structuring, CBAM compliance and ESG-related tax advisory.
KIRN Partners has hired partners with prior experience in policy-making roles within the Government of India in advisory capacities.
Speaking on the launch, Kapoor said,
"India's indirect tax and trade regime is being reshaped simultaneously by domestic reform and global disruption. The operationalisation of GSTAT will fundamentally alter how tax disputes are litigated in this country, and businesses - particularly those that have managed legacy disputes for years - need counsel that understands both the law and the institutional machinery. At the same time, live policy gaps exist in a world being transformed by the Fourth Industrial Revolution. KIRN Partners was founded to bridge both of these needs: to offer specialist litigation depth for legacy matters and strategic policy advocacy for the new economy."
