Equity Partner and senior member of the international arbitration practice at Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas (SAM) Rishab Gupta would step down from the partnership at SAM to join London and Singapore based barristers' chambers Twenty Essex as a Tenant with effect from November 1. Gupta will continue to work closely with SAM on current and future matters.

Gupta also plans to set up a chamber practice in Mumbai for his India practice. This will be independent of his practice at Twenty Essex, and will focus on arbitration and commercial litigation.

Gupta is a 2007 graduate of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and has a Juris Doctorate from Columbia Law School in 2008. He completed his DPhil in Law from the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar in 2016.

He is qualified to practice in India, the UK and the US. He had previously worked with international law firms like Debevoise & Plimpton and Allen & Overy, before returning to India to join SAM in March 2016. He was called to the Bar of England & Wales by Middle Temple in 2021.

Gupta will be one of the few Indian advocates to join English chambers as a Tenant. Other Indian practitioners who have joined English chambers as Tenants are Senior Advocates Harish Salve (Blackstone Chambers) and Nakul Dewan (Twenty Essex Chambers).

Commenting on Gupta's joining, Co-Heads of Twenty Essex and King's Counsel Philip Edey and Charles Kimmins said,

We give a very warm welcome to Rishab. His extensive experience in international arbitration, commercial litigation and PIL make him an excellent fit for Twenty Essex, where we have no doubt he will continue to thrive."

Managing Partner and Head of Dispute Resolution at SAM Pallavi Shroff said,

Rishab is an excellent lawyer and has been an integral member of the firm’s pan-India arbitration practice over the years. He will continue to be a trusted advisor to the firm and work closely with our team on existing and new matters.  We wish him all the very best for his future endeavours and look forward to our continued association in his new role at Twenty Essex.”

Akshay Chudasama, Managing Partner of SAM said,

"Rishab is an accomplished advocate who has been an important part of our market leading arbitration practice. We will continue to work closely with him on our existing and future matters, and wish him all the best with this new chapter in his professional life."

Twenty Essex is one of the leading commercial sets in London and Singapore. Gupta will be the sixth new practitioner to join chambers in the past year.
