Umang Pathak has joined Trilegal as a Senior Specialist - Climate Change, ESG Disputes and Regulatory, further strengthening the firm’s advisory capabilities at the intersection of climate regulation, ESG governance, and dispute resolution.

Pathak is a 2006 alumna of Delhi University.

A lawyer and a corporate sustainability catalyst with 20+ years of experience, she combines design thinking with strategic foresight to build resilient, growth-oriented organizations. In 2020, she founded India’s first niche ESG advisory firm, successfully navigating pandemic-era uncertainties while achieving consistent, profitable growth.

Pathak has advised leading Indian corporates, multinationals, startups, and investors at the nexus of business, law, and sustainability. Recognised as a pioneer in India’s ESG space, she has set up and led teams to manage complex, sensitive, and high-stakes mandates, positioning ESG as a competitive differentiator in the market.

She will work closely with the firm’s partners across practices, advising on climate risk management, ESG compliance, and dispute preparedness in line with evolving Indian and global regulatory standards.

With Umang's joining, the firm will further enhance its ability to:

  • Provide strategic counsel on climate-related stakeholders disputes and regulatory enforcement matters, including litigation and arbitration arising from environmental claims and ESG controversies.

  • Advise clients on regulatory frameworks governing climate disclosures, carbon markets, and emissions reduction commitments across sectors.

  • Support organisations in managing ESG risks through robust compliance, risk mitigation and management frameworks.

  • Integrate climate and ESG regulatory insights across the firm's transactional, advisory, and contentious practices.

Nishant Parikh and Sridhar Gorthi, Partners and Members of the Management Committee, Trilegal, said,

"We are delighted to welcome Umang to Trilegal. As ESG considerations become central to corporate strategy and regulatory frameworks worldwide, the need for specialised expertise in climate change and ESG disputes has never been greater. Umang's appointment further deepens our focus and our ability to support clients across the full lifecycle of ESG and climate-related risk."

On her joining, Pathak added,

"Trilegal's forward-thinking approach to ESG and its established leadership in green energy and sustainable finance create an exceptional platform to address the legal challenges of the climate transition. The firm's collaborative culture and deep sectoral expertise align perfectly with my commitment to helping organisations balance sustainability goals with regulatory and legal realities. I look forward to working with the teams to support clients in their sustainability journey while meeting regulatory expectations and mitigating enforcement and litigation risk.”
