CUSAT IPR Centre to host seven-day training programme for Law Teachers

The Inter-University Centre for Intellectual Property Rights Studies, Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) will be hosting a seven-day training programme for law teachers from June 21 – 28. The theme for the programme is “IPRs and Competition-Social Dimensions”. The last date for application is May 15, 2019.

CUSAT has been conducting various programmes on IP laws so as to create awareness among students and faculty. One among those is the “Refresher Course for Law Teachers”.

The programme started in 2015 focusing on the various forms of IPRs. It was followed by “Patent Law and Development” in 2016 and “Copyright: A Social Justice Perspective” in 2017.

The seven-day programme is aimed at evolving a group of experts in IP laws, both in teaching and research, who would be capable of addressing various policy issues as well as academic needs of the country for a crucial and highly technical area of law. It is a series of programme with the broad theme as Developmental Perspectives of IPR Laws, wherein every year, a specific area in IPRs is chosen for deliberations and discussions.

This year’s programme on “IPRs and Competition-Social Dimensions”, is the fifth in the series of the programme. The purpose behind this theme is to look at the interplay between competition and intellectual property rights so as to understand whether both the legal regimes need to work together so as to achieve a common objective of global welfare.

Teachers who are interested in participating may register by mailing to rc.iuciprs@gmail.com along with a brief description of their academic profile, on or before May 15, 2019. Registration fee for the programme is Rs. 2000/-(inclusive of working lunch and refreshments for the programme days). Participants will be reimbursed the amount of second-class sleeper charges from the railway station nearest to Aluva, Cochin. Participants have to manage and bear the cost of accommodation. Participation is limited to the first thirty registrations. Further details of the programme are available on the website ciprs.cusat.ac.in
