Darvesh Yadav had been threatened before, chamber forcibly occupied, says FIR

The FIR lodged in connection with the killing of Uttar Pradesh Bar Council Chairperson Darvesh Yadav has cited details of a personal grudge against her as a possible reason for the incident.

The FIR lodged as per the complaint of one Suny Yadav, relative of Darvesh Yadav, states that the wife of assailant Manish Sharma had threatened Yadav over the phone on previous occasions.

According to the complaint, Vandana Sharma, wife of Manish Sharma, had told Yadav that anybody who asked for money or a vehicle from her husband will have to pay with his/her life.

Manish Sharma had also forcibly taken possession of the chamber of Yadav, the complaint states.

The complaint also names another lawyer, Vineet Gulecha, who had gone to Manish Sharma’ s house and brought him to the place where Yadav was present for a welcome ceremony. Gulecha, as per the FIR, had abetted the crime.

Darvesh Yadav, who was the first woman to occupy the post of Chairperson of the UP Bar Council, was shot dead yesterday inside the Agra district court premises.

Yadav had assumed charge as head of the UP Bar Council two days ago. She was attending a welcome ceremony when the incident occurred.

The assailant, advocate Manish Sharma, had then shot himself and was admitted to a hospital.

The Bar Council of India (BCI) has resolved to observe one-day mourning in Uttar Pradesh today.

It has also demanded a compensation of at least Rs. 50 lakh for the family members of Advocate Darvesh Yadav from the Uttar Pradesh government. Further, the BCI also expressed concern over the safety of lawyers and their representatives in the country, and demanded that appropriate steps be taken to secure the safety of the members of Bar Council of India and the State Bar Councils.

The Ghaziabad Bar Association, as well as the Uttar Pradesh Tax Bar Association, have also called for abstention from work today.
