A Delhi court on Wednesday ordered the Delhi Police to provide a copy of the first information report (FIR) to the man who attacked Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. .Judicial Magistrate First Class Gaurav Goyal of the Tis Hazari Court said that according to the Supreme Court's judgment, an accused should be provided a copy of the FIR. "In view thereof, the instant application is allowed and IO concerned is directed to supply the copy of FIR within 24 hours against due acknowledgment. Application stands disposed of. Accused is also directed not to publish, circulate or disseminate the contents of the FIR in the public domain or to any third party without the permission of this court," the Court ordered. .The case pertains to the attack on Gupta during a public grievance session at her Civil Lines residence on August 20, 2025.The assailant, Rajesh Bhai Khimji Bhai Sakariya, a 41-year-old autorickshaw driver from Rajkot in Gujarat, posed as a complainant before assaulting her. He was arrested shortly after the incident and charged with attempted murder, assaulting a public servant and obstructing official duties. .Sakariya filed an application in the court stating that he was not provided with the FIR copy.The police opposed the plea, arguing that the FIR was declared sensitive by a police order, making the application premature and not maintainable.However, the Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) later said that the FIR copy can be shared if the accused gives an undertaking that the same shall not be shared with anyone else.The lawyer appearing for the accused said that there was no mandate under the law to give such an undertaking..After considering the case, the Court directed that the FIR copy should be provided. .Advocate Pradeep Khatri appeared for the accused.
