Lawyers in Delhi district courts will abstain from judicial work on Monday to demand an inquiry against a district judge accused of misbehaving with a lawyer at the Rohini courts in North-West Delhi.
A video of the heated exchange between the lawyer and the judge has gone viral on social media. The altercation reportedly began after the judge denied the lawyer’s request for a passover.
Following a meeting on Sunday, the Coordination Committee of All District Court Bar Associations, Delhi, said District Judge Rakesh Kumar had displayed “highly objectionable and unbecoming conduct” towards the advocate, who is also the President of the Rohini Court Bar Association.
The committee said the incident had caused deep resentment and serious concern among members of the district court Bar. It demanded the judge’s transfer and the withdrawal of his judicial work.
“After detailed deliberations, the Coordination Committee resolved that DJ-04 Sh. Rakesh Kumar-V, North-West District, Rohini Courts, be immediately transferred from Rohini Courts, all judicial work be withdrawn from him forthwith and an enquiry into his conduct be initiated at the earliest.”
The committee further announced that lawyers across Delhi’s district courts would abstain from judicial work on May 18.
“It has further been resolved that the members of all District Court Bar Associations of Delhi shall abstain from judicial work tomorrow, i.e., 18th May 2026, across all District Courts of Delhi.”
