A Delhi court on Saturday convicted former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor Tahir Hussain of the offence of abetment to rioting in a case related to Delhi riots.

Additional Sessions Judge Praveen Singh of the Karkardooma Court acquitted Hussain of all other offences.

The Court also acquitted co-accused Md Shadab, Shah Alam, Riyasat Ali, Gulfam, Md Rihan, Arshad Qayyum and Irshad Ahmed of all the charges.

A detailed order is awaited.

The FIR in the case was registered under Sections 147, 148, 149, 427, 436, 120B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Dayalpur police station.

One Irshad Ali had filed the complaint alleging that his shop was looted and set on fire on February 24, 2020, causing losses of ₹17–18 lakh in stolen goods and ₹10 lakh in property damage. Another complainant, Mohd Zahid, said rioters raised slogans in support of Tahir Hussain, whom two constables identified during the investigation.

Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Madhukar Pandey appeared for the State.

Tahir Hussain was represented through advocate Rajiv Mohan.
