Dhirubhai Naranbhai Patel J. to take over as acting Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court for the third time

Justice Dhirubhai Naranbhai Patel, senior-most Judge of Jharkhand High Court will take over as acting Chief Justice of the High Court.

The appointment comes consequent to the retirement of current Chief Justice Justice Pradip Kumar Mohanty.

Justice Patel enrolled as an Advocate on 28th July, 1984 and practiced at the High Court of Gujarat. He was elevated as an Additional Judge of the High Court of Gujarat on March 7, 2004 and was made permanent Judge of High Court of Gujarat on January 25,2006

He was transferred to Jharkhand High Court on February 3, 2009.

Prior to this he has served as the Acting Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court twice – from  August 4, 2013 to November 15, 2013 and from August 13, 2014 to October 31, 2014.

Besides Jharkhand, the High Courts of Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Calcutta and Andhra Pradesh/Telengana are headed by acting Chief Justices. According to PTI, the Collegium is likely to meet soon to consider appointment of Chief Justices to these High Courts.
