Events: Attend Vidhi Centre’s talk by Vikram Raghavan on Prof. Gadbois and the judges of the Supreme Court of India

The Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy in Delhi is organising a talk on Professor George Gadbois by Vikram Raghavan. The talk, to be held at the India International Centre tomorrow, should attract those with even a passing interest in the Indian judiciary..More than half a decade ago, Professor George H Gadbois published a book titled, Judges of the Supreme Court of India: 1950-1989, a thoroughly well researched look into just “who” these judges were. The book was based on first person interviews with former judges and, in more ways than one, was the first of its kind. Godbois himself described the book as one that would be easy to read for people from “a wide variety of backgrounds”..But Raghavan’s talk will not focus on the book alone, rather it will delve deeper. An association that can be traced back to his law school days, Raghavan says that the Professor’s name would inevitably come up during student discussions, especially when it came to a data-based analysis of the Supreme Court..“The word ‘jurimetrics’ has always been associated with [Gadbois],” says Raghavan, “no one has really done this kind of work.”.Over the last five years, Raghavan set up a series of interviews with Gadbois, spanning fifty hours and covering Gadbois’ earlier writings, as well as Gadbois’ dissertation on the Indian debate for a Supreme Court.
