Gujarat HC to hold Full Court Reference on May 1 to commemorate 60 years through Video Conferencing amid COVID-19 lockdown

To commemorate the Gujarat High Court completing 60 years, a Full Court Reference of the Court will be held on May 1, 2020, albeit through video conferencing and with limited direct participating, in view of the COVID-19 lockdown.

Chief Justice Vikram Nath informed in his letter that a series of functions on May 1-3 2020 and more during the ensuing calendar year were earlier planned to celebrate the occasion. However, on account of the prevailing COVID-19 crisis, all the functions have been deferred.

However, for now the Full Court Reference will be held on May 1 at 11 am through a Video Conferencing platform. It is further intimated that a invitation link to join the conference would only be sent to few, on account of technical restraints.

"Since any platform of video conferencing has limited number of participants who can be part of it, it has been decided that all sitting Judges, Advocate General, Government Pleader, Public Prosecutor, Assistant Solicitor General, President, Vice President & Secretary of Gujarat High Court Advocates' Association, all designated Senior Advocates, Law Minister and State Law Minister would be extended the link to join for the Reference."

However, he has added that the the Court will endeavor to live stream the Reference and that a live stream link may be uploaded so that all can view the event.

The modalities for viewing the Reference through live streaming would be uploaded on the High Court website and intimated through messages or emails, it is informed.

The letter adds that participants joining the Reference are expected to be in formal attire, even if they may not have their lawyer's robes presently while in lockdown.
