Court room 21 of the Delhi High Court today witnessed a strong exchange of words between Senior Advocate AS Chandhiok and Advocate Vrinda Grover during the hearing of the defamation suit filed by Justice Swatanter Kumar against media houses.

Chandhiok is representing Justice Kumar in the case while Vrinda Grover is the advocate for the law intern.

The law intern had filed a transfer petition in the Supreme Court seeking transfer of the hearing in the defamation suit to Bangalore or any other city.

When the case was taken up for hearing today Grover sought deferment of hearing till the Supreme Court decided the transfer petition. Chandhiok, meanwhile, strongly objected to the fact that the details of the transfer petition were published by leading newspapers and the copy of the petition was uploaded on websites. He alleged contempt of court by the media houses as the High court had earlier restrained media houses from publishing details of the case except reporting of court proceedings. All the while there was strong exchange of words between Grover and Chandhiok both of whom objected to one another’s statements.

Justice Manmohan Singh, who is hearing the matter, adjourned the case to May 22.
