HSA Advocates Banking & Finance Partner Navin Syiem and his team, including Associate Partner Abhishek Bhalla, and two lawyers along with Infrastructure Partner Avirup Nag have resigned from the firm.

Speaking on the development, Managing Partner, Hemant Sahai, confirmed

“Navin and his team as well as Avirup Nag are not associated with the firm anymore. I wish them all the best in their future endeavours.”

Navin joined the firm in 2010 prior to which he was working at Ashurst in Dubai as a Senior Associate. He worked at Ashurst for little over year.

A graduate of National Law School of India University, Bangalore, Navin started his career at Ajay Bahl & Co in 2000 after which he moved to Trilegal and later joining GE Capital as Indian legal counsel. In 2007, he moved to Dubai to join Afridi & Angell. He spent about four years in Dubai before moving back to India to join HSA.

Avirup joined the firm in December 2013 from Trilegal, and was part of the firm’s Infrastructure and Energy practice.

A graduate of National Law School of India University, Avirup initially worked at Trilegal and then ICICI Bank before moving to Europe for further studies in 2007. After completing LL.M under the Erasmus Mundus, he joined Herbert Smith Freehills where he worked for about two years before moving back to India.

Speaking on the development Hemant Sahai also said that although the departures appear to be related, however, he is not in a position to confirm this with certainty.

He further commented,

“These departures will not impact in any manner, the spread and depth of legal services offered by the Firm, nor will the firm’s ongoing expansion plans be affected in any manner. HSA recently moved to significantly larger office premises in Mumbai in line with its expansion plans.”

Navin Syiem was not available for comment at the time of publishing the story.
