Indian judiciary will see remarkable change under 'dynamic' leadership of CJI Chandrachud: Justice BR Gavai

Under the 'dynamic' leadership of Chief Justice of India Dr DY Chandrachud, the Indian judiciary will undergo a remarkable change and citizens would get speedy justice at a minimum cost, Justice Bhushan Gavai of the Supreme Court said recently..Justice Gavai was speaking at the felicitation ceremony held for CJI Chandrachud at the Bombay High Court on Saturday. The event was also attended by Justices Abhay Oka and Dipankar Datta of the Supreme Court..In his speech, Justice Gavai stressed on the fact the CJI Chandrachud is known for his inclusiveness, and stresses on facilitating representation of all sections of society, especially women and marginalised citizens."Our Constitution has guaranteed right to justice, both political and social justice, and also right to speedy justice. Thus, I am sure under the dynamic leadership of CJI Chandrachud, the family of judiciary from Supreme Court to magistrate courts, will make every attempt to ensure that the grievance of the citizens for getting justice speedily and at minimum cost, will be achieved. We will all see a remarkable change in Indian judiciary during his term," he said..He further highlighted the fact that CJI Chandrachud and his wife Kalpana Das had adopted two differently-abled children while he was serving as Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court."I have personally seen, both of them are looked after with such compassion. It is really very rare to find in fact, it is difficult that even we won't look after our children so well," he said.The judge then recounted an instance when one of the two children fell ill last summer, when COVID-19 was at its peak."The child was to be brought down to Chandigarh and was hospitalised for a month. Kalpana was camping there for over a month till she recovered and brought back home. This humane and compassionate approach is reflected even in his judgments.".Continuing his praise for the CJI, Justice Gavai said,"He has an out-of-box thinking, he is a workaholic, dedicated to the call of justice. His contribution to right to privacy, empowerment of women, giving rights to women in Army are well known to one and all. At this occasion, we can highlight one quality which is not widely known. As it is always said that there is a woman behind every successful man, likewise, his wife Kalpana has always stood behind him."
