Indian Lawyers Association to host its first Annual National Conference in December 2018

At the start of this year, established professionals of the legal community kickstarted the Indian Lawyers Association (ILA), an initiative which aims to further the interests all who are engaged or aspire to become part of the legal profession.

Nine months into its inception, the ILA is already looking forward to hosting its first ever Annual National Conference in December this year. The Conference is slated to be the biggest lawyers conference across India.

The Association was launched last January under the aegis of founding President, Navneet S Chugh, chairman of Chugh, LLP. Also at the helm of the organisation is Shweta Lamba, its Executive Director and Rajashree Rajasekaran, General Counsel for ILA.

ILA aims to shape the future of the legal profession in India. To this end, it intends to serve as a platform to fraternise with other members of the legal community as an educational forum and as an active voice for the legal community.

To carry forward its mission, the ILA has already been launched in over 100 cities, with chapter meetings being held once every month. The independent chapters decide on how and when to conduct seminars or other events, which also aid in focusing on issues specific to each city. These are interaction-based events intended to create networks. Thereby, people who belong to different areas of the profession can conjoin their inputs and expertise for the betterment of the legal profession and of society.

ILA’s focus on such network-based activities is how it seeks to set itself apart from other organisations. The goal is to cut across the varying roles in the legal community, bringing together legal professionals, corporates, law students and others. The networking platform created would facilitate better professional opportunities. Thereby, the ILA also aims to connect young professionals and law students with senior, experienced members of the legal community. Further, the events organised by the ILA would serve as a stage to brainstorm into general legal and social issues.

The ILA aims to become the world’s largest organisation for legal professionals. Carrying forward this endeavour, the ILA’s upcoming 3-day National Conference has enlisted top-tier speakers from different sectors in law, business, government and academia.

The event is expected to attract over 1300 delegates across India. A series of 30-panel discussions will be hosted by eminent lawyers, judges, environmentalists, corporates and law firms. The topics to be covered include corporate governance, competition law, arbitration, environmental law, legal aid and crimes against women, among others.

The ILA will also be partnering with numerous law universities to bring together vice chancellors, deans, teachers and law students.

Further, the conference will feature an awards ceremony, to recognise the work by acclaimed law firms and law universities that have changed the game when it comes to legal education.

The event will be held at the Taj Palace, New Delhi, from 20th to 22nd December 2018.
