Jammu & Kashmir students booked under UAPA for celebrating Pakistan's victory over India at ICC T20 World Cup

The Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) police has registered two first information reports (FIRs) against medical students for offences under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) for allegedly shouting pro-Pakistan slogans after Pakistan cricket team defeated India in the ICC T-20 cricket match on Sunday..The video of students celebrating the same had gone viral leading to the FIR.."The FIRs have been registered under registered in Soura and Karan Nagar Police Stations of Srinagar city under sections 13 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Section 505 of IPC against a few GMC and SKIMS medical students for allegedly celebrating Pakistan's victory against India in ICC T-20 World Cup match," a highly placed source in J&K Police informed Bar & Bench..According to the source, after the video went viral on social media, there were demands from different sections of the society for action against the students..Similar incident allegedly took place in J&K's Samba wherein it was alleged that six persons were booked by police for celebrating Pakistan victory against India..However, Senior Superintendent of Police, Samba Rajesh Sharma, denied having registered any case."No body has been booked so far. We are investigating the matter and verifying the culprits and facts. Whosoever is found guilty shall be strictly dealt under the relevant provisions of law," he said..Apart from the above, three Kashmiri students were reportedly suspended from an engineering college in Agra for allegedly putting status posts on social media in favour of Pakistan cricket team after it won ICC T20 World Cup against India..In this regard, notice was issued by Dean of Hostels of Raja Balwant Singh Engineering Technical Campus, Bichpuri, Agra, to Wardens on October 25.."This is to inform you that the students Arsheed Yousuf of Civil Engg 3rd year, Inayat Altaf Sheikh of Civil 3rd year and Showkat Ahmed Ganai of Civil 4th year were found involved in indiscipline act of posting status in favour of Pakistan after the India and Pakistan Match on 24/10/2021. Therefore, the hostel discipline committee has decided to suspend all three of them with immediate effect. Further the committee will look into the matter and take appropriate decision," the notice said.
