Jammu & Kashmir to get National Law University based on NALSAR, NLSIU

Anuj Agrawal

After Mumbai’s National Law University, the country is to get another NLU, this time in the state of Jammu & Kashmir.

As per this report in Kashmir Life, the state’s Law Minister Syed Basharat Bukhari will be visiting Bangalore and Hyderabad to study NLSIU, and NALSAR respectively.

Although Bukhari has not provided any tentative dates for the establishment of the university, the likelihood of this happening is quite high. Over the last few years, a number of State governments have exhibited a great degree of enthusiasm when it comes to national law universities. Maharashtra, for instance, has plans to establish two more NLU’s within the state.

In 2013, Haryana passed a law for the establishment of an NLU in Sonepat although it is unclear whether there has been any work on the ground.
