Bar & Bench

Reliance Industries lawyer Janhavi Gadkar has been denied bail by magistrate Richa Khedekar in the drunken driving case, according to TOI and other news reports.

Gadkar was accused of killing two people while driving in an inebriated state. She has been charged under Section 304 of the IPC.

According to the same report, the court had reserved its order yesterday after senior counsel Amit Desai pleaded for around two hours. Desai tried assuring the court that his client would not abscond or tamper with evidence.

However, public prosecutor Prahlad Mahajan expressed his concerns about Gadkar being granted bail while statements of witnesses are still being recorded. Further, Niteen Pradhan, a counsel engaged by one of the victims, also opposed bail.
