JSA Partner and Competition head Amitabh Kumar retires

Partner and Head of the Competition practice at J Sagar Associates, Amitabh Kumar is retiring effective October 10, 2019.

Commenting on Amitabh’s retirement, JSA Joint Managing Partners Amit Kapur and Vivek  Chandy said,

”His contribution to both the firm’s overall growth and of the Competition Law practice in particular, has been invaluable over the years. His counsel and presence will be missed. 

We wish Amitabh all the best in his years ahead.”

Amitabh Kumar holds an MA (Economics) from Delhi School of Economics. He then completed his LL.B from Bombay University in 1984. He went on to do an MBA (Finance) from Jamnlal Bajaj Institute of Management Sciences, Bombay and an MSc in Fiscal Studies from Bath University, UK in 1990.

He is a retired officer of the Indian Revenue Service. Over a career of thirty one years, he served in the Income Tax department (rising to Commissioner, Income Tax), and with the Union Ministry of Heavy Industries. He was also the first Director General of the Competition Commission of India, a position he served in for five years.

He joined JSA in 2010 and has been with the firm ever since. He was part of the firm’s Executive Committee.
