The Kerala High Court marked Kerala day on November 1 (the day on which the State was formed in 1956) by launching a series of major initiatives including a Malayalam legal glossary.

The day also marked the 70th Establishment Day of the High Court.

The legal glossary or നിയമപദകോശം of 6,375 legal terms compiled by the High Court, was launched by Chief Justice Nitin Jamdar.

The glossary, an initiatvie of the IT Directorate, has been formulated with the objective of ensuring clarity, accuracy and uniformity in the use of legal terminology in Malayalam.

In his address at the event on Saturday, Chief Justice Jamdar observed that the High Court has been translating important judgments of the Supreme Court and the High Court into Malayalam, with the aim of making judicial pronouncements more accessible to the public. The preparation of the legal glossary would play a pivotal role in achieving linguistic consistency and precision in that process, the Chief Justice said.

The Chief Justice also announced the completion of e-Office implementation in the High Court, all courts in the district judiciary, the Union Territory of Lakshadweep, and all associated judicial units.

The e-Office system eliminates the need for physical copies of files by facilitating paperless file processing, enabling digital movement, approval, and archiving of files. The Chief Justice highlighted that this digital transformation enhances efficiency, ensures faster decision-making, enables real-time file tracking and significantly reduces administrative delays, storage needs and expenditure on stationery.

November 1 also marked the day from which all judicial officers in trial courts across Kerala would start using Adalat.AI, a voice-to-text platform to record witness statements. The electronically recorded statements will be uploaded to the District Court Case Management System (DCMS), enabling immediate accessibility to all stakeholders.
