The Kerala High Court, on its administrative side, has ordered the transfer of a family court judge over allegations of sexual impropriety.
Judge Udayakumar V of Chavara family court was transferred to Kollam Motor Accident Claims Tribunal.
According to highly placed sources, the decision to transfer Udayakumar was taken after a woman litigant wrote to the Kollam Principal District Judge accusing Udayakumar of making sexually coloured and obscene remarks during counselling.
Kollam MACT judge Prasanna Gopalan will take over as Chavara family court judge in the mutual transfer notified on August 20.
The transfer order was issued by the Registrar (District Judiciary).
"In view of administrative exigencies, Sri. Udayakumar V., Judge, Family Court, Chavara and Smt. Prasanna Gopan, Motor Accidents Claims Tribunal Kollam are mututally transferred forthwith. Sri. Udayakumar V. shall relieve from his duties after handing over the charge of his Court to Judge, Family Court, Kollam. Smt. Prasanna Gopan shall hand over the charge of her Court to Sri. Udayakumar V. and take charge of her new post from Judge, Family Court, Kollam," the order said.
The administrative committee of the High Court has also ordered a probe by the Registrar (District Judiciary) into the matter. The committee will consider the report of the probe in the coming week.
